 Part 4: Agnes Elizabeth Trickey (1850 - 1919)

Early life and marriage to Charles William Cayzer

Agnes Elizabeth Trickey was the only child of William Trickey III and Agnes Bryant. She was born 19 February 1850 but sadly her mother Agnes died a fortnight later, 06 March 1850, having suffered apoplexy. It seems she was brought up by her Bryant grandparents (she was certainly living there in 1851 and not with her father. It is not known what happened to her father.

When Agnes was 18, she accompanied her uncle and aunt Charles and Sarah Fry on board his sailing ship, the 'Glenlyon'. They travelled to Bombay (now Mumbai), India, where she met Charles William Cayzer (1843 - 1916). They married 16 May 1868 at St John's Church, Colaba, and went on to have ten children, though one died in infancy: Charles William, Mary Agnes (Mamie), John Sanders (Jack), Pattie Louise, August Bernard Tellefsen, Florence Gwendoline, Arthur Edward Bryant, Constance Winifred, Herbert Robin and Harold Stanley. Charles was a notable ship owner who founded Clan Line and served as Conservative Member of Parliament for Barrow-in-Furness. He was later knighted and made a Baronet. Dame Agnes, as she became known, died 15 November 1919. [1]
