 Part 2: Mary Ann Jane Henderson (1811 - 1893)

Marriage to Thomas Renfrew

Mary Ann Jane Henderson was born 08 October 1811 in Ireland. She was the eldest child of George Henderson and Mary Cashell. When she was young Mary Ann's family moved to Quebec, Canada, where her father's regiment was garrisoned. She married merchant grocer Thomas Renfrew (c1797 - 1834) 17 April 1830 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Quebec. She was 18 at the time of the marriage and Thomas was about 33. They had two children: George Richard and Mary Ann (more information about them appears in the Renfrew section).

Marriage to Reverend Edmund Botterell

After Thomas' death in 1834 from cholera, she remarried Wesleyan Methodist minister Reverend Edmund Botterell (1812 - 1893) 31 July 1838 and they had eight children: John Henderson, Edmund Henry (Henri), James Albert, Jane Estherbrooke, William Edward, William Cashell, Charlotte Louisa and Martha Mary (more information about them appears in the Botterell section). The family spent some time on Prince Edward Island and in St Johns, Newfoundland, where Edmund was minister. By 1871 the family were in Montreal. Mary Ann died 22 May 1893. Tragically, Edmund was killed when he was knocked down and run over by an electric trolley bus 26 October 1893. They were both buried in the Mount Royal Cemetery.
