 Part 2: Philip Ashcroft (1860 - ?)

 

Marriage to Ann Critchley

Philip Ashcroft (1860 - ?) was a collier. He married Ann Critchley 01 January 1887 at Adlington Parish Church, Lancashire. They had four children: John William, Thomas, Charles and William. 

 

 Children of Philip and Ann

John William (1887 - 1887) was baptised 12 June 1887 at St George's Parish Church, Chorley. Sadly he died the same year.

 

Thomas (1891 - 1917) was born 17 November 1891 and baptised 03 January 1892 at St James Parish Church, Chorley. He was the only sibling to survive infancy. After his mother's death in 1898 he lived with his half-sister Margaret Ellen Critchley and her family. He worked as a labourer and married Frances Quinn (c1891 - ?) 21 August 1909 at St Aiden's Church, Bradford, Manchester. They had two daughters, Harriet and Ada. Sadly Harriet died in infancy. Thomas enlisted in the 9th Battalion Manchester Regiment (known as the 'Ashton Pals') 06 August 1914, just two days after Britain declared war. He was later made an acting Lance Corporal and was killed in action 03 June 1917. His gravestone lies in Neuville-Bourjonval British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

Charles (1896 - 1900) was born 02 April 1896. He was baptised 10 May of the same year at St George's Parish Church, Cholrey. Sadly he died in 1900, aged 4.

 

William (1898 - 1898) was born 04 April 1898 and baptised 20 April the same year at St George's Church, Chorley. Sadly he died the same year.
