Ann Critchley (c1856 - 1898) was the daughter of William Critchley and Ellen Christopher. She worked in a cotton factory and gave birth to Margaret Ellen Critchley 09 September 1879. It is not known who the father was. Ann married collier Philip Ashcroft 01 January 1887 at Adlington Parish Church, Lancashire. They had four children: John William (1887 - 1887), Thomas (1891 - 1917), Charles (1896 - 1900) and William (1898 - 1898).

Margaret Ellen Critchley married John Edward Jones 01 January 1897 at St Laurence Parish Church, Chorley. They had one son, Edward 'Ted' Jones who was born 09 April 1901. John died 21 April 1903 of phthisis pulmonalis. After Ann died. Margaret Ellen helped bring up her half brother Thomas Ashcroft. She married Thomas Winward 1904.

Ted married Annie (surname unknown) but it is not known what happened to either of them.
