Part 1: Thomas Rabbitts (? - ?)

Marriage to Hannah Brown

Very little is known of Thomas Rabbitts. He was a widower when he married Hannah Brown (? - ?) 28 August 1809 in Whatley Parish, Somerset, England. Thomas lived in Nunney parish at the time. A Rebecca Brown was one of the witnesses to the marriage. He and Hannah had four known children: Lucy, Thomas, William and Fredric. It is not known what happened to Thomas and Hannah after their children were baptised. [1]

Children of Thomas and Hannah

More information about Lucy (c1212 - 1872) appears in Part 2.

Thomas (c1816 - 1877) was baptised 09 June 1816 at All Saints Church, Nunney. He married Sarah (c1815 - 1889, surname unknown) and lived in Frome for a time, working as a journeyman mason. Sarah was born c1815 in Pensford, Somerset, and worked as a burler (inspecting the quality of clothes) then a laundress. Thomas and Sarah had three known children: Jane (1842 - ?), Anna (1943 - ?) and Sarah (1846 - 1906). Jane and Anna (or Hannah) almost certainly died as young children. Sarah married William Cooper and went on to have eleven children. By the 1850s, Thomas was no longer referring to himself as a mason and was no working as a labourer. There does not appear to be any mass unemployment, migration or agricultural issues in Somerset in the 1850s and 1860s. Nevertheless, Thomas left the area and went to work as an agricultural labourer in Wrexham, Wales. His wife and daughter later joined him and he found work as a labourer and plate layer on the railway, which had come to Wrexham in 1846. Thomas died 26 October 1877, aged 61. He was buried four days later in Wrexham Cemetery, in grave plot number 2957. Sarah went to live with her daughter and died in 1889. She was buried 21 May with her husband.

William (c1819 - 1820) was baptised 19 September 1819 in All Saints Church, Nunney. He died the following year and was buried 18 June 1820 at the same church.

Frederic (c1821 - 1823) was baptised 25 August 1822 in All Saint's Church. He died when he was two and buried 28 December 1823 at the same church.
