 Part 1: Catherine Lonergan (1881 - 1955)

Early life and marriage to John (Jack) Gleeson

Catherine Lonergan, known as 'Kate', was born 30 July 1881 in County Tipperary, Ireland. She was the seventh child of Patrick Lonergan and Honoria Keating. Her family lived in Coolcroo, Two-Mile-Borris. She was baptised the day after her birth in Moycarky Parish and her sponsors were John Lonergan and Mary Ryan. 

She was working as a servant when she married John (Jack) Gleeson 19 February 1906 at the Roman Catholic Chapel in Two-Mile Borris. They had seven children: Thomas (1907 - 1907), Norah (1908 - 1982), Michael Joseph (1910 - 1978), Thomas (Tom) (1912 - 1993), Mary (Molly) (1908 - 1967), Catherine (Kitty) (1916 - 1999) and Bridget (Bid) (1920 - 2000). The family lived at 'Ballyduff', their cottage near Manseltown just north of Two-Mile Borris. Kate died 04 February 1955, aged 73, and was buried in Moyne graveyard.
